I am having trouble setting the default date format in Excel 2008.

When I type in 20-jan-2010 it is displayed as 20-Jan-10.

I would like it to display as DD-MMM-YYYY.

Through various internet searches it seems the recommended way to do this is to change the "Short Date" under System Preferences>Language & Text>Formats. I have tried that and it doesn't work. I have restarted excel and also tried rebooting to no avail.

I originally found the fix from this post:

or

System:
OS-X Snow Leopard (10.6.2)
Excel 2008 (12.2.3)

Thanks for any help!

Have you looked in Excel> Preferences> Edit to see if the box is checked for
"Preserve display of dates entered with four-digit years"?
