I ecntly received a six month trial package of Microsoft Office Professional
2007 for a course that I am taking. I am having problems with the spellcheck.
I checked the custom default dictionary and it is empty. Is there any way I
can download a version of default dictionary.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

The default Custom.dic will be blank until you add some words to it. :)
This is the file that is used when you use the "Add to Dictionary" command.

First, click the Microsoft Office Button, close it, and see if spell check
begins to work. (Believe it or not, there's a slight bug with spell check
and the Microsoft Office Button, you need to click it once for it to start
working. Note that this only applies to new installations and it will only
happen once.)

If that doesn't work then if no custom spell checker have been installed on
the computer, exit Word, and then backup and delete the following registry
key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\ProofingTools\1.0\Override\en-US

This key will be rebuilt the next time you start Word.

To edit the Registry, go to Start/Run and type: Regedit then press Enter or
click OK.

One the Registry opens, navigate to the location I provided. There should be
a plus (+) next to each folder in the path. For example there will be a plus
next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then Software, and so one. Click each plus to
expand the branch until you get to "en-Us". That's the one you want to
delete.

You can backup the key as a precautionary measure by selecting the key, and
then from the File menu click Export. You can provide any name for the
exported key and location. This way if you find what you deleted needs to be
added back you can double-click the file you saved to merge the data back
into the Registry. In this situation I believe the key shouldn't be there,
which is why you are having problems. If it does need to be there then it
will be recreated so the backup may not be necessary.
