each individual document

Open the Normal.docx template and change the font size there. Save and
from then on, all new documents based on Normal will have the font size
you want.

How do i open the "Normal.docx" template?

i'm not having problems with the font size, but with extra point spacing after lines (default is now 10 point line spacing after a line) and I want no spacing after a line.

Quickest way:

In the Formatting Palette open the Styles group, point ot the style called
Normal & click the button that appears at the right edge of the border
surrounding the style name. Select Modify Style, use the Format> Paragraph
control to change the Spacing After. When you click OK in that dialog, put a
check in the little box (lower left) labeled Add to Template, then OK that.
The change will be saved to the Normal.dotm template.

Double-click it??
Actually, the correct name is Normal.dotm
it is saved in your user template folder.
On my Mac it's in ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User
Templates/Normal.dotm but I can't remember if it is standard or if I
custom-changed the location at some point.

That's also part of the styles you can define. You can edit the style
and chose how much space to put after each paragraph (from 0 to
whatever).
Look in the formatting palette. You can even edit it from there and save
the changes back to Normal.

The Heading 1 & Heading 2 styles have nothing to do with the question you
asked. The style you need to modify is the style called Normal as described
in the first sentence of my reply:)

Changing other styles has no effect on the text unless you apply that style
to it. The default paragraph style is Normal.

I changed Normal to 'no spacing' but still had double spacing.

then changed headers spacing but that had no effect either on odder spacing than original problem.

Is the paragraph you are typing in in Normal??
Let;'s try this. Select all in your document (command-a) and using the
Style palette in the FOrmatting palette, make sure everything is in
Normal.
On the top part of the Style section fo the Formatting palette, you can
select Modify Style for Normal.
In the modify style pane, right there, you can select the spacing for
the paragraph itself.
On the bottom of this pane, there is a pull-down menu where you can
select Paragraph…
On this section, you can change the settings for the spaing between
paragraphs.
Does that correct the problem??
