default e-mail account changes in Outlook 2003

Bryan

I have a Windows 2003 SBS server, and am using Outlook 2003 clients.

Exchange is not configured as the primary e-mail account. There are five
users that have a separate POP/SMTP account configured in Outlook. They
want to use the POP/SMTP account as their primary account. We can set this
account as the default account; however, when you log out and then back in
to Windows, the Exchange Server account automatically becomes the default
account. The user has to set their POP/SMTP account as the default account
at the start of every Windows session.

I have searched for this in the KB and found article 920438. This sounds
very close, but it doesn't mention my exact symptom. If I wanted to try
this hotfix, can I aquire it without calling tech support?

I also found a post in this forum on 9/21/05 that mentions this exact
problem. The reply suggests that creating a new profile and setting up the
POP/SMTP account first will solve the problem. I have tried that but it
didn't solve my problem.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan

That is indeed the case for SBS servers. To change you must change the
following registry key;
Key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\ClientSetup
Value Name: NoTransportOrder
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1

The article reports not available to me but if the article mentions to call
Product Support you must call them to obtain it. Usually you don't have to
pay for these hotfixes.
