DEFAULT FONT ERROR

T

Terry S

When I insert a file into a document, at RANDOM, the
inserted file will open in New Times Roman 10pt, even
though it was saved in another font style/pt.

I have changed the default font on my normal.dot, and
this doesn't correct the problem.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks!

G'day "Terry S" <[email protected]>,

Use unique styles my friend. See, Normal in your inserted doc is carry
TNR. But the Normal style in your target document is in Arial. So when
your inserted doc comes in it acquires the appearance of the style
definition in the new document.

This is a desirable feature for many of us. To get around it, you can
author the documents in different styles. For example host doc uses
Body Text Host and the inserted doc just uses Body Text.

The second way to get around it is much more dangerous - using Master
Documents and inserting that file as a sub-document. It will ask if
you want to rename the styles in that document that are in use in the
host document so as to preserve the original formatting of the source
document. There are many gotchyas to MDs so I have written a long
article for the magazine at Tech Whirlers (www.raycomm.com) on the
subject.
