default font

How do I make a default font other than this cambria?

No one I send word docs too seems to have this font which MS have adopted as default. Even quark users open up a page of gibberish.

Im sorry if this is a stupid question, I had rather got used to Word employing a popular font as default and have never had to change before

Thanks

In a new blank document, go to Format-Style. Select Normal and then Modify.
Change the font to whatever you wish. When prompted, save the normal
template, and it will be fixed for all future documents.

After you do this, quit Word. Word will ask to save the normal template,
click yes. Then it should be OK when you restart.

Well, they put a lot of money into developing new fonts, and they are
actually pretty nice. In a few years, when the majority of people are on
Word 2007 or Word 2008 or later, then these fonts will be installed on
most computers out there, and they will be better defaults than Times
New Roman or Arial, which we are currently stuck with.

But right now, not so much. However, actually what should have happened
is that the other people's machines substituted, say TNR for Cambria,
instead of some gibberish font. Hard to tell whether there is a flag in
the font causing that or the other people's machines are set up weird.

I can't think why MS would want to develop fonts, they don't have much of a successful history at knowing what looks nice!

Its only a better default if quark and indesign can read it

Thats what I thought, but no, Word just quit normally
