default method for reporting progress on tasks - Help

Hi Everyone,
I have a big problem when I set the default method for reporting progress.
I'm the system administrator and I set the method to be "Actual work done
and work remaining". Everything is working smoothly untile the day after ( we
are doing backup to the server database every night). From some strange
reason,I get back in the morning and show that the default method has been
change to be - "Hours of work done per day or per week". (I'm the only one
with administrator permission and I didnot change that)
The big problem is that even if I change it back to the original setting -
every new project and new task in old project still appear in the timesheet
view with the incorrect setting.
one more thing - I verify that every project has report prosess as the
default setting defined in the PWA. ( "Force project managers to use the
progress reporting method specified above for all projects")

I don't know what else to do. This is a big issue for us. The only way to
continue working is to restore for the database from the last night ( save
back up for each project first. restore and then republish)
We can't work like this every day....

Any suggestion???
