Default paper size for Access reports

Using Access 2003: How do I set the default paper size which Access uses
for reports it generates internally - in particular, reports from the
Documenter tool? Every time I generate a new report, I have to remember to
change the paper size from Letter to A4 before I print; it's a struggle for
my aging memeory, and also a PITA ;-)

That should be a property of whatever printer you've got set up as the
default printer, not of Access itself.

The default paper size is usually part of the printer setup. If A4 paper is
only used in your Access app and letter is the default in other apps, then
someone has changed the printer device in Access. To change it back, open
the report in Design View go to File ... Print Setup and change the printer,
then save that printer in the report before changing back to print preview.

Thanks for the response.

The printer default is A4 (that's the standard paper size here in Oz).
I can't save paper/page parameters for the Documenter tool report;
those options are not enabled because it's an internal Access report -
all I can do (and seemingly have to do) is change to A4 every time I
generate a report using the Documenter.

All my user-designed reports are set to the correct (A4) page size, by
being based on a template report with that setting. The Print
Relationships report also defaults to A4. However, the Documenter
report does not - it defaults to Letter.

Further suggestions will be gratefully received.

You will need to change and save it in the report's Design View. That's the
only solution without coding the report to change printers or paper. If you
want to do it in code (you still need to be able to get to the Design View)
have a look at PrtDevMode Property in the help files.

I guess that means that it can't be done, then. The Documenter report is an
internal report, and cannot (as far as I can tell) be opened in design mode.
So I guess I'm stuck with the default which Microsoft thinks that I want.

Seems a bit user-unfriendly. Particularly when another internal report
(Print Relationships) does use the default which I want, not the one MS
thinks I might want.

Is there some way to open the Documenter report in design mode so I can save
my default paper size? Or is there perchance a Registry hack that can fix
this?

When designing and testing my database documentation tool, one of
my Beta testers (an MVP) suggested I change my settings from Letter
to A4 for the European standards, otherwise my reports did not fit
on one page.

My tool does not provide nearly all the information the Documenter
does, but you may find it useful for some areas. Plus it's free!
