Default Paper Size

David

I work with a legal office that is having a peculiar problem. On a number of
their computers the paper size keeps defaulting to 'US Letter Small', a size
that I have never heard of much less used. They store all of their documents
on a common server and access them from there. Is there any way to (a)
eliminate that paper size form the sizes and (b) make the default size just
US letter for all of the documents?

Thank you if you are able to help solve this one, it is causing quite the
problem throughout the office...

Hi David-

You don't mention versions of Word or OS, so its impossible to offer
anything specific, but as I understand it paper sizes are a function of the
printer driver.

Assuming OS X, (especially if there have been any recent upgrades), the
first thing I'd check is that the most current drivers are installed and
that they are 'fresh'... drivers can get corrupted. If that alone doesn't
correct the problem, System Preferences would be the next step to make sure
the default paper size is set correctly for the installed printer(s).

If that still doesn't help, more detail would be quite useful.

Hi David,

CyberTaz is correct that this is a function of the printer driver (and the
OS). There is, however, a possibility of hacking the driver in question.
The basic procedure is outlined here:

<http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/changeprintdefault.htm>

Before trying the hack, check that you have the most recent drivers for your
printers; that might solve it. And I assume you already tried (and failed)
to change the default in the users' Normal templates?
