Default Powerpoint Font

Hi,
Can someone tell me how to set/change the default font in Powerpoint. I know about Slide Master and seeting the font in that but I want ALL PP to start up in Arial and it is presently in Times New Roman.

I'm sorry John, but that just isn't possible. Which ever Office program you run it's default font will be Times New Roman. It's just a Microsoft default. Bottom line, what your asking for is impossible.

That's not the case with PowerPoint. The default font is set in the
template. Go to View > Master > Slide Master. Click in an unused area, so
that nothing is selected. Go to Format > Font and select the font, font
size, color, style, etc. Check the box that's labeled "Default for new
objects" and then click OK. Now, you can proceed with creating your
presentation, but if you want the same default font every time you use this
template, go to File > Save As and select Design Template as the file type.
Give it a new name or save it with the same name. You'll have to do the
same thing for other templates you use, but if you save the template
afterwards, you never have to do it again.

In Excel 2003 you go to Tools > Options > General tab and set the font
there, close Excel and reopen it and your font choice is the default.

In Word 2003 the process is similar to PowerPoint, but I'll let you visit
the Help File and search for "set default font" to see the directions.

I have PowerPoint 2003 and your solution below doesn't work. It must be for
a different version.

the placeholders (where it says "click to add text"), then that font is set
on the slide master (View/Master/Slide Master).

I followed the directions but the option to reset the default was "grayed"
out. I couldn't reset the font in the Slide Master. I generally use the
"blank" slide layout and I want to reset the default text so that I don't
have to change each and every text box I create.

Okay. There's a difference between setting a font on the placeholder in the
slide master and setting the default font that "manually created" textboxes
(i.e., the textbox icon on the Drawing toolbar) use.

Since you're using a blank slide layout, you're looking for the way to set
the default for manual textboxes. What you see below is how to set the font
on the placeholder on the slide master (where it says "Click to add text").

Create a textbox that's formatted the way you want it to be.
Then right-click and choose "set autoshapes default."

Also, after you've set your auto textbox, you'll want to draw an actual
autoshape (rectangle, oval, etc.) and reset its autoshape defaults, too.


Do the following in this order:
1. Right-click the textbox and choose "set autoshape default."
2. Right-click one of the autoshapes and choose "set autoshape default."


It's a little bizarre, but just trust me that you want to set the autoshape
default on the textbox first. Then you want to reset the actual autoshape
default.

This is a follow-up question to setting a default ppt font. I get how to set
a default font on the Master and how to set the default font for when you
create a new textbox. However, can I set it so that when I copy and paste
text, from a Word document that's in a different font, it will come in with
the default font I set?

In Excel, I can change the font in the worksheet to the same as my default
ppt -- if I then copy and paste it will come through correctly. However, I
can not get this to work for Word.

FYI: Default ppt font is set as Calibri and text I paste comes in as Arial
(even though Word document is set as Calibri).

Is there a simple fix for this? Is there another underlying "system" font
that it's default to?
