Default Project Workspace template

I'm trying to put up automatic provisioning mode for custom template from
"Project Workspace Provisioning Settings". Problem is that I only see one
default template in drop down list box and that is "Microsoft Office Project
Workspace".

I created the default template and I registered it as global template using
this article: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/ms503640.aspx

The template is working just fine if I create a workspace manually but I
want the creating to be automatic using custom template. Does anyone have a
solution for my problem?

Hello jiihoo,

When you run the following command stsadm -o enumtemplates what do you get?
Do you see the template that you just uploaded?

Did you use a clean workspace to create your template?

Hi!

If I run stsadm -o enumtemplates it will get me the custom template what I
registered.

Here is the result:

"Test Workspace Title - Language: 1033 - Site Template: _GLOBAL_#0 -
Template Id: 1"

I also used a clean workspace for template making. I did everything just
like this article says: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/ms503640.aspx

It should work but it doesn't...

Hi!

I've tried to solve this problem but still no luck. Has anyone had similar
issues?

I hope you are talking about a PS 2003 site, because I see the same thing
on mine. I only have one template displayed on the "Site Provisioning
settings" page, and I know there are at least 9 in SharePoint. If I add a
site directly in SharePoint, they all show up. Unfortunately, I can't get
access to the servers to do up close and personal debugging at this time, due
to administrative rules.

I swear I saw all of them at another place I was the PS Admin at in 2006.

Hi Jackson,

To provisioning the template, you have to deploy the site template
(.stp file ) on WSS Server. I described the detailed steps to
extending the project workspace on MS Project Server 2003 and MS
Project Server 2007. I hope this will help.

I'm not talking about "extending" anything! I just want to see all "out
of the box" templates from SharePoint displayed in PWA, like they are in
SharePoint's "add site" functionality! Right now only "Project Workspace" is
displayed in the drop-down box.

Hi Jackson,

Okay, my understanding is when Project Server deployed with SharePoint
will get only one default template, i.e. Project workspace.

Experts: Please correct me, If I am wrong.

Technically, Project workspace will have project realted fuctionality
like "issues/risks/delevirables". So, it will go with MS project
server to have the standard functionality to manage project.

If you see all those other sharepoint templates like "meeting work
space, document workspace and social meeting workspace" are not
related to project schedules. Is there any reason that you want to
associate one of this template to your projects?

Thanks

Technically, Project workspace will have project realted fuctionality
like "issues/risks/delevirables". Project workspace always internally
associated with MS project plans,so you can manage issues/risks etc
from sharepoint. This would be the one of the reason we have to use
defalut project workspace template or customized default template to
manage the projects in MS Project Server environment.

If you see all those other sharepoint templates like "meeting work
space, document workspace and social meeting workspace etc," are not
related to project schedules. You can use these templates to create
the child sites.

Is there any reason that you want to associate one of this template

I know where my confusion originates - my former site had already had
several "envisoning" Project workspace templates built by our consultant,
Kevin Watson, and that was what I was seeing. I know I added at least one to
the group when I became Admin. The PWA templates must be different from
SharePoint, and "Project Workspace" exists in both spots.

According to "Project Server 2003 - UNLEASHED", pages 752 and 766, the
Admin picks one template to serve all future projects. The PM's don't get to
pick and choose until they get their own Project Workspace, then sub-sites
can be built using a range of templates in SharePoint.

As soon as I can get server access, I'll be creating one or two new
templates for evaluation, and using stsadm.exe to insert them, I expect to
see them in PWA's Admin page for Site Provisioning. If I don't, I'll be back!

Thanks!

Hi Jack,

I am getting feeling that we all may be talking the same here.

YES, you might be seen multiple templates envisioning in dropdown to
choose the required template to create SharePoint site for project.

See this scenario:

I am working for global company and we have various departments in
organization.

Let's say Dept.A want to have the portion of default project workspace
items plus few their department specific custom lists.

Let's say Dept.B doesn't have any special needs, just they want use
default workspace template for their SharePoint sites.

Let's say Dept.C want to have some additional columns on Issues list.

As an administrator, you need to maintain there project workspace
templates to create the respective departmental SharePoint sites.

I will do the following:

Dept A Workspace: Customize the default project workspace as per Dept
A requirements and deploy it through STSADM

Dept C Workspace: Customize the default project workspace as per Dept
B requirements and deploy it through STSADM

Now, I will have three workspaces in dropdown:

Dept A Workspace -> used for Dept A Projects

Project Workspace -> used for Dept.B Projects

Dept C Workspace -> used for Dept A Projects

Anyhow, bottom line is the templates in dropdown are either default
template from out of the box or/and customized extended default
workspace templates.

Thanks
