Default ruler "stops"

It seems that my default horizontal ruler "stop" positions for setting tabs have changed (or is it my imagination). To test, I cleared all tabs & set "default tab stops" to 0.25 inches. Then I tried to set left aligned tabs at 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 inches on the horizontal ruler with the cursor. Actual tab settings were 0.48, 1.02, 1.49, 1.97, and 2.51 inches. I think ruler "stops" used to be 1/16" increments for precise tab settings, but obviously not now. Any ideas how to set up the horizontal ruler stop increment?

Thanks,
Robin

This is a not uncommon complaint in Word 2002, though usually more common in
relation to centimeters. Check the grid interval (Draw | Grid on the Drawing
toolbar) to make sure you don't have some strange interval set (and turn off
"Snap to grid"). If this doesn't solve the problem, you'll have to work
around it by pressing Alt while dragging tabs on the ruler (which overrides
the grid and also displays the measurements).

Suzanne,

Thanks for the tip. Actually, I had already considered the Draw grid and had tried different grid spacings to no avail. However, your recommendation to turn off "Snap to grid" fixed the problem.

Thanks again!
