Default "Save..." doesn't use file name of file that was opened - is this a bug?

It may not be a bug, but it's really annoying.

I downloaded an Excel xls workbook. It's probably an Office 2004 file.

I opened it with Excel 2008 for Mac. I make one edit, then hit "Save" via command-S. It does not use the file name of the file that was opened, rather, it prompts for a file name as if this was a newly created file.

Have you actually *downloaded* the file to your HD? If so look in the folder
where you've stored it & see what the filename extension is.

If you're *opening* the file from the web site you're being prompted to save
locally because you can't save changes to the web server. The file exists
only in the RAM of your Mac until you save it to disk.
