Hi Matt-

Go to the Word menu & choose Preferences. Select File Locations on the left,
Select Documents on the right and click [Modify]. Navigate to the location
you want and click [Choose]. That will become your default directory.

Documents reopen at the same window size as when last saved & closed *if* at
least one change has been made. So when you open a file, make some kind of
change, resize your window, then save the file.
