Default size of window

Hi,
I would like to default the size of word windows for two reasons:

1. To access the bar at the top in order to move the window. The bar
is always covered by the toolbars.

2 To regulate (default) the size of the windows to my preference when
I open a new one.

I may have brought up #1. in a previous posting some time ago. Still,
I remain perplexed & bothered. If I added up the time I spend groping
for the bar it would really be significant. How could programmers of
such technical genius and attentiveness to detail have f..... this up
so royally? (Hope I haven't broken any ethics standards above with
my ..... .) I'm so irked about it. I truly believe that Microsoft
did this in order to irritate me personally.

Perhaps since the time I last wrote in about this you all have found
(invented) a fix.

Sincerely, Rafael

Hello Rafael,

Someone will be along soon to let you know how to specify a precise position
for the document window.

Have you tried opening your Normal template, positioning it correctly,
typing a space then back-spacing, then saving it? Normally that will ensure
that blank new documents open in the correct position.

Sometimes documents created on the PC open up behind my top toolbars. I
have a small gap between a couple of toolbars that allows me to grab the top
of the document without needing to move a toolbar out of the way.

Since you ask: well, I know what f.... means, being a big boy, but I find
such language unpleasant. But then, I don't watch Hollywood films any more
because of their "everyday assault by language". Then again, maybe I'm just
an old curmudgeon who yearns for the days when the education system was not
so defective that people grew up with vocabulary defects.

Meaning no offence -- especially as I recall you are the very model of
moderation, hence your courtesy in asking -- but you did ask. ;-)

Hi Rafael,

I never spend *any* time groping for the window bar. Your toolbars are
undocked. Once you get them into the right place, they should stay that
way for months. I've redocked my toolbars maybe once per year.

To get them into the right place, grab a toolbar--not the document--and
float it around until the document jumps out of the way. That means you
have found the sweet spot. Drop the toolbar.

If you keep moving the document around, it won't fix itself. You've got
to get the toolbars into position.

Rafael,

To clarify.

Undocked toolbars can be a cause, but some documents open themselves behind
the toolbars of their own accord; I find it often happens with documents
created on PCs. So you can open the ex-PC document and it goes under, and
immediately afterwards open, say, a blank new document and it won't. That
has nothing to do with undocked toolbars.

You can emulate that (I sometimes do, unintentionally) by just dragging a
document under the toolbar and letting go before you realize it's there --
once you let go the document can't be moved, unless you create a gap, as I
said, or undock the toolbars, as Daiya said.

If undocking and re-docking the toolbars solves your problem, that's good.
Otherwise, change your Normal template.

Cheers,

Clive

Clive - and others,

Yes. I did ask. I'm long time a sailor, though I did get a good
education. Being a mariner is no excuse. I agree with you about
contemporary education. Actually, I've been working on cleaning it
up, though I frequently regress when I'm really ... well, when I'm
really upset, and want to be emphatic.

Now. To get back to business. For the moment, other duties call.
I'll be back. I can't emphasize enough how much I appreciate the
help I get on this newsgroup.

Best, Rafael

Well, hello sailor! ;-))

I was one of those Air Force blokes who used to fly overhead (rarely at the
controls -- just talking ballast down the back).

You couldn't hear the gentlemanly vocabulary above the Allison turbo-props!
;-)

Cheers,

Clive
