Default Start Time.... Not Defaulting!!!

P

Peter

Hi,

I'm having trouble with the default start times in
Microsoft Project 98. I carried out the following steps;

1) Create new project
2) Select Standard Calendar as default when prompted
3) From the menu select Tools > Options
4) Click Calendar Tab
5) Enter "Default Start Time" of 7:00 am and "Default
Finish Time" of 4:00 pm.
6) Click "Set as Default"
7) Click OK

When I then enter a task in the task name field and hit
enter the default start time is 8:00 am and the default
finish time is 5:00 pm.

I then checked under the menu Tools > Change Working Times
the "Standard calendar" was seleceted along with the "use
default" radio button. However all days had 8:00 am to
12:00 pm / 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm recorded against them.

From this screen I clicked options which is just a
shortcut to the Options screen described above. However I
could verify from this screen that what I had previously
entered was correct e.g. default start and finish times
(7:00 am to 4:00 pm).

So how does this thing work !!!!, It's a default that is
not defaulting.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Peter

Hi Peter,

The mechanism is fully explained in
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
Faq 5: Default Working Hours

In short, your task will have a constraint "Not Earlier Than" the default
time (7:00) but it cannot be scheduled before 8:00 since that is no working
time. Both can be set independently from one another.
