(Project 2007) Hi Everyone!

I need to know if there's a way to assign a default Standard Rate (Let's say
$1/hr) to every LOCAL resource that my users add to their plans. I tried
openning the enterprise global and the enterprise resource pool, and changing
the Default Standard Rate (Tools --> Options --> General), but it didn't work.

So, how can I do it? Thanks for your help.

Hello Sebastian,

Have you tried asking the user to set the default standard rate in
their local copy of Global through Tools > Options, General tab? I am
not at all well versed in Project Server, but my assumption is if they
are a local resource it would be controlled through the user's copy of
Global, not enterprise.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

In the future, please post your Project Server 2007 questions in the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is for
Microsoft Project desktop questions only. To answer your question, the
Project Server administrator cannot specify a Default Standard Rate value
for all users by setting the value in the Enterprise Global file. Remember
that this file is your organization's "library" of custom enterprise objects
such as Views, Tables, Filters, Groups, etc. The only values you can
specify for all users in the Enterprise Global are the Currency options on
the View page.

To specify a Default Standard Rate for local resources, your PMs will need
to open each of their enterprise projects and specify the desired value, and
then save their projects. They can also click the Set as Default button in
one of the projects to specify this value for all future blank projects.
You should also set this value in every enterprise project template as well.
Hope this helps.

Hi Julie.

Thanks for your answer. It's a good idea but I wanted this process to be
totally transparent for the users. I just don't want them to set manually the
standard rates for the local resources.

Thanks anyway. I'll consider this option.

You're welcome Sebastian. I'm sure Dale gave a better answer -- he's
one of the server gurus :)

Hi Dale. Thanks for your help (and sorry for the location of my post).

I have one more question: You tolde me that my PM's "can also click the Set
as Default button in one of the projects to specify this value for all future
blank projects." But it ain't working. I changed this option in one of the
projects and then saved it (even publish it). But when I open a blank
Project, the default standard rate remains in $0/hr. I did the test with one
of the PM's and the same thing happened. Why?.

I can't reproduce the behavior you describe. Are you certain you did the
following steps:

1. Open an existing enterprise project.
2. Click Tools - Options.
3. Click the General tab.
4. Specify a Default Standard Rate value.
5. Click the Set as Default button.
6. Click the OK button.
7. Click the New button to create a new blank project.
8. Click Tools - Options - General.

You should see the Default Standard Rate you set in the enterprise project.
Clicking the Set as Default button will not affect any other existing
enterprise projects, however. Let us know.

Hello Dale.

It works as long as I don't close Project Professional. I mean, I followed
your steps and the New Projects did have the Default Standard Rate value that
I set in the Enterprise Project. BUT, if I close MPP and open it again, the
Default Standard Rate for new projects is "$0/hr" (again). Is there anything
else I can do? Thanks.

Even after closing and relaunching Project Professional 2007, the Default
Standard Rate I specified has not changed, so I still cannot duplicate what
you are seeing. Out of curiosity, what is your current Service Pack level
for both Project Server 2007? Service Pack 1 (SP1) is the current level and
should be installed, if you have not done so already. Let us know.

Dale.

I think we've found the problem: I haven't installed SP1 yet. Maybe that's
the reason I'm not seeing the default values after relaunching MPP.

Thank you. One more reason to install SP1 (I'm working on it). Appreciate
your help.
