Default task types

I've been studying this topic lately and wondered why Project's default task
type is Fixed Units. Isn't it far more common that people calculate duration
and enter that? So that it would make sense to make Fixed Duration the
default task type?

Hi,

I don't think that is far more common.
For instance, in IT nearly everybody I know estimates work.
And very often you don't want Project to change units - "they gave me the
guy halftime, I can't excees that" -
Only when you subcontract work duration generally ois the base.
