default Times font in Word v X

L

lexico

Any new blank Word document opens up with Times default font.

Has anyone cracked the way to set your own default font that
STAYS as default rather than reverting to Times each time you start a
new document?

I am unable to find a definitive answer here despite many
related postings.

Dear [whoever],

Go to Word's Normal template, double-click to open it, re-define Normal
style, close the template and save.

Or, if you don't care about styles and prefer an easier method, simply go to
Format>Font, select the font you'd like to use and then click on the Default
button in the lower left corner of the Font window.

Where do they hide that template?

Depends on your version of Office, Kurt.

In Office 2004, it's in Users/[name of the user]/Documents/Microsoft User
Data.

I never used Word X, but I understand the Word X Normal template is in
/Microsoft Office X/Templates.

Many thanks, Clive!

It worked perfectly well when changing font
in Normal/Microsoft Office X/Templates. I can at last
breathe a sigh of relief having dumped the most boring Times..

It does NOT work however and has never worked when trying to change it
in a Word document:
"Format>Font, select the font you'd like to use and then click on the
Default
button in the lower left corner of the Font window". A new document
still opens with whatever
font was set up previously as the change does not save.

I guess there is a bug in this X version of Word for Mac.

Hello Lech,

Good to know it worked!

I never used Word X -- I skipped from 2001 to 2004 -- so I can't help much
on your second observation.

Do you have the paragraph mark in blank new documents styled with Normal?
There are many good reasons why one should use something else (with body
text appearance), and one of them is that it's dead easy to change the style
definition when the style isn't Normal.

Post back if you want more info.

Cheers,
Clive
