How do I make View --> Zoom --> Page Width my default setting so
that
I don't have to reset every new document that I open?

TIA

You don't mention which version so where you'll find it varies, but try this
(if I'm remembering incorrectly someone will let you know rather
quickly:)):

Open your Normal document template, set your preferred view & zoom, type &
delete a character, then close & save the file. New files should open in
that view from then on.

I'm afraid that it turns out that it didn't do what I need.

When I create a new blank document it opens in the view that I prefer,
but still when I open an existing document I don't get the view that I
prefer.

Is there any way to make it so that all documents open into the view
that I prefer?

If you're using Office 2008 I'm afraid not - unless someone has an
AppleScript that will adjust window size and/or position. In prior versions
you can create a macro to do it, but 2008 doesn't support VBA.

Keep in mind, though, that a doc will reopen in the same way it was last
saved, so what you're experiencing may only be temporary. Once you've opened
an existing file & adjusted the window, make some other change to the
content - even if you then undo. Save the file & that's how it should
reopen. Files you receive from others you can't control until after you open
them for the first time.
