hi there... i want to do EXACTLY the following

i created a customized sheet and put it in C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\XLStart

but excel still opens up in the one that it normal opens up in

how can i FORCE excel to open up into the sheet i created with outhaving to
select it from the file menu ?

You almost have it. The wb you create should be named book.xlt (template)
and is correctly placed in XLStart as you know.
