defaults in Word 2003

Every time I install Word (6, 97, 2003) I set the options
and auto-correct to suit my work.
Like, who doesn't??
So can somebody explain why 2003 insists on
resetting "Capitalise first letter of sentence" and "..
select whole word".
Or why every now and again I "lose" my UK English
dictionary and find eveything being done in US English?
