Defeat superscript auto-formatting?

Word 2000: Does anyone know how to defeat superscript
auto-formatting?

If you're referring to superscripting of ordinals, clear the check box for
"Ordinals (1st) with superscript" on the AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools
| AutoCorrect.

Hello Chas,

It's possible you may want to correct some that are already in your
document. If so, drag over the affected characters (and any adjacent text if
you're in a hurry) and key Ctrl-spacebar. This reverts the character style
to that of the underlying paragraph style.

Of course, you can always do a Find & Replace.
