Please put me out of my misery! I want to define my own form field [fo
use in a protected form] and get a user to input e.g ref number, the
have this ref number repeat on several other pages without having t
retype. I am aware of the cross-reference and bookmark (thanks to thi
forum), but I haven't been too lucky in digging up stuff on ow t
define a form field. Can someone tell me how to do it in a very eas
way?

many thanks, cathal..

What do you mean by "define a form field"?

In what way would it be different from a Textbox type formfield?

Display the Forms toolbar and click on the "ab" button to insert a Text Form
Field. If you want to set the format of the reference number and perhaps
display a dummy number, double-click on the field you just inserted to bring
up the Form Field Options dialog. Change the form field type from "Regular
text" to "Number" and then choose (or define) a number format (and default
number if desired).

Note the bookmark assigned to the form field (you'll need that for your
cross-reference); you can change it if you like. Check the box for
"Calculate on exit" to make your cross-reference update automatically.
Before any of this will work, you must protect the document for forms (the
padlock button on the toolbar).
