Delay in opening long file names

I have a new XP PC workstation under an NT4 domain. When
trying to open a Word document or Excel spreadsheet with
a file name over eight characters long, it takes 30-60
seconds for the file to load. Knowledge Base #120363 was
no help - just acknowledged the problem. Win98se
workstations on the same network don't have this problem.
Help! Any suggestions?
