Delay in Typing, When Using Outlook eMail

Running AMD 3800+ Processor with 2 GB memory.

I keep getting a delay whenever I try to type emails. When I view the task
manager, I get 2-instances of svchost.exe, hp????.exe (my printer). In
general, my System Idle Process is 97-98% and I have 2 GB of memory
installed. The items that are running are normal system items. I have the
bear minimum running in the system tray.

The delay can be a 1/4 of a second or less but it is still annoying when
your fingers go faster and the letters than the letter appear. It causes
lots of misspelled words.

Note: This does not happen all the time. I can't put my finger on the issue
as to when it happens or not. I'm still keeping a close eye .. trying to
figure this out.

use Outlook 2003. Only my system has this issue.

Don't mean to piggyback on this thread but I've been looking for a
while and can't find a solution for this.
I believe I have a similar problem but that's hard to say at this
point.

Here's my set up -
Dell Dimension 2400
Celeron 2.4 GHz
512MB RAM
Win XP Home edition SP2
Outlook 2003
McAfee Virus Scan version 11.2 & Security Center ver 7.2
I use Firefox 2.0.0.4 most of the time but I have IE 7 as well.

Here's the issue -
Start Outlook every day
If I have to open or view any HTML messages it hangs and cpu goes to
99% with Outlook.exe being the only app using CPU.
If I reply to an HTML it'll hang again with high cpu. If I start
typing there are long delays before any letters appear.
My default Message Format is Rich Text and I don't have MS Word
checked as my HTML editor.

The band aid I've found that works for me is to go to Tools, Options,
Security Tab.
Change Security Zone from "Restricted" to "Internet" and hit Apply.
Then change it back to "Restricted" and hit Apply again.

Then nothing hangs and no high CPU issues.

Here's what I've done to try to fix this problem.
1 - Ran Scanpst.exe to check for errors. Found some and did the clean
up and then ran again until no errors found.
2 - Ran the Compact Now option on my PST file.
3 - Exported that PST file for back up purposes.
4 - Created a new PST
5 - Opened the compacted PST and manually moved the messages from the
folders of my old PST into my new PST. All except the Sent Items
folder. I felt like something was wrong with that folder since it had
hiccups during the "compact now" command.

I thought it was fixed at the end of that long night but when I woke
up the next day I had the same issues.

I looked at my add-ins mgr in Outlook and I only had 2 which I then
disabled.
I looked at Com Add-ins and there were none.
I also disabled Virus Scanning of Outgoing messages but it's still
scanning Incoming messages.

I've seen folks with similar issues as well which is why I didn't want
to piggyback this thread but I needed to ask for help.

Any and all suggestions will be gladly taken.

I don't know how to get a count. I've look at the list.

I don't know what that has to do with the delay typing when using outlook?

security update for IE sports a new anti-phishing mechanism that also scans
the sites listed in Restricted Zones. Sadly due to Outlook's IE dependancy
it will check it for Outlook too well composing new emails EVERYTIME you
type a character. I have reported the issue to Microsoft already a while
back. The current workaround is to keep the amount of sites listed in the
Restricted Zone to a minimum.

I had the same problems when using Word 2003 as our html e-mail editor
for Office 2003
I found that Spybot (an excellent freeware program I really like) will
add a great number of sites to the restricted zone.
Uninstalling Spybot and emptying 'Restricted Zone' has resolved the
issue here. Empting the 'restricted zone' is a slow processe of select
1 site,delete,confirm, select another... So I used Regedit to empty
the 'restricted zone' by empting (or deleting) all 'ZoneMap' and
'Domains' folders'. Hopefully Microsoft will correct their editing
problem so I can use Spybot again.

Still having the problem of Outlook closing Word when I send an e-mail
(unless Word has an open document). Any help. please.

Are you referring to IE6, IE7 or both? Wouldn't disabling the anti
phishing feature be a work around as well?

Or you simply reset IE back to default on the Advanced tab ;-)

Adding lots of sites to the Restricted Sites zone isn't a good method to
deal with it. It's like adding all the addresses you don't want to receive
mail from in your block list. If you still want to go this way use the much
more efficient hosts file approach instead;

The slowness issue appears to be only when having the IE7 rendering engine
(and having lots of sites in the Restricted Sites zone but I assume that was
clear already ;-)

Switching Outlook to open with the "Outlook Today" view instead of the
default worked for our entire office. Here are the instructions I sent
to the office for everybody to follow:

·Open Microsoft Outlook 2003.
·Once Outlook opens, you should see the normal folder view of your
Inbox in Outlook.
·Click on the link to open "Mailbox User Name" directly above your
Inbox in the left hand pane
·Clicking the "Mailbox User Name" link invokes the "Today" view in the
main pane of Outlook
·In the right-hand pane, click on the "Customize Outlook Today ..."
link
·After clicking the "Customize Outlook Today ..." link, you should see
the option to "When starting, go directly to Outlook Today"
·After clicking on the "When starting, go directly to Outlook Today"
option, select "Save Changes" in the upper right corner of Outlook
·When Outlook restarts, you will see your Outlook Today summary view.
Simply click on your Inbox to view that folder and use Outlook like
normal. The slow typing voodoo is no longer an issue.

I used the switching of security zones previously, but that was too
cumbersome for the rest of the office to follow with every restart of
their computer. This works much better - no daily interaction
required.

I don't find the anti phishing feature in IE6. I thought that was only

I wouldn't call this a valid reason to delay IE7. The Restricted Sites zone
is basically only used for testing and having a few sites in there won't
noticibly affect performance.

It seems to happen when the email has web stuff forwarded. Like when it has
a web page that is being forward therefore; that content with in all of the
replies back and forth (as the email gets longer) increases the delays.

I will remove everything in the restricted sites. I don't know how that
stuff gets in there in the first place. I've never messed with that stuff
before.

The issue goes away when I change outlook to use plain text or Rich Text.
I'm still clearing the Restricted Zones?

Or you simply reset IE back to default on the Advanced tab ;-)

Adding lots of sites to the Restricted Sites zone isn't a good method to
deal with it. It's like adding all the addresses you don't want to receive
