Delay

I'm running the latest version of Entourage (11.3.5) under Mac OS 10.4.9. If
I read the release notes for 11.3.5 correctly, the update allegedly fixes
the rather strange delay that sometimes occurs when I first open Entourage.
The delay just reappeared, again.

Entourage started up okay and I could see it inhaling new messages. However,
when I clicked on the Inbox to view messages nothing happened. I tried
switching to the address book in Entourage. Nothing happened. I had no
problem getting to the Finder or launching other applications. When I
returned to Entourage and attempted to go back to the Inbox, nothing
happened, so I waited patiently for the program to respond. When it did, it
remembered all of the mouse clicks I'd made and flipped to the Inbox; then
to the address book; and, finally, back to the Inbox.

Did the problem not get fixed or is this normal behavior from time to time?

Hi Hal!

The Read Me that accompanies the updater application mentions this about
Entourage: "This update fixes an issue that caused Entourage to stop
responding for several minutes during ordinary use."

I don't believe this is referring to the problem you're describing.
Instead, many users were reporting that while using Entourage it would
suddenly stop responding for a few minutes and then resume working.

I've never heard of the problem you're describing. When you see this
problem do you see the progress bar moving at all? Do you regularly deal
with large attachments? What types of email accounts do you have (POP,
IMAP, Exchange)?

My accounts are all POP accounts. I don't normally have the Progress window
open, but proctor the inflow/outlflow of messages from the status bar in the
bottom right hand corner of the main window. In this case all messages were
received.

I sometimes get sizeable attachments, but there were no attachments to any
of the messages that arrived today. Entourage just didn't respond for
several minutes. Again, this doesn't happen every time I launch it, but it
happens often enough that it's disconcerting.

Hal, just to let you know you're not alone, I have been experiencing this
same problem. My symptoms are exactly yours.
