Delayed Write Failure

Regrettably, I have been experiencing the dreaded DWF message for several
weeks, but only when Outlook 2003 is left open. If I open Outlook, download
my messages and then close when finished I never receive a DWF error. I can
leave my machine running for days with IE running without incident. I leave
Outlook open for more than a short time I receive the following messages...

Delayed Write Failure
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \$mft. The data has
been lost. The message continues about loss of network connection...blah,
blah, blah.

After closing that window, I receive the same message except referencing
file \$directory.

I close all the windows, and I takes sometime dozens of windows to close,
close Outlook, reboot my laptop and all is fine again.

Chkdsk and defrag have been no solution.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks...a frustrated Outlook user.

Do you have more than one drive or are storing the PST on a network?
Network usage is not supported BTW.

Diane, I'm having this problem with a single drive laptop.

In reviewing the event viewer log before the DWF message is logged, the
system logs the following messages:

The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur.

The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the
pool was empty.

I have to assume its all connected, but only Outlook is the common
denominator.

Oops, forgot the second question. Yes, but it does not make any difference
whether I'm connected to the network or not. I receive the DWF error in each
case.
