Delegated Time Tracking Approval

We are using Microsoft Project Pro & Server.
We are rolling up our timesheet results on a weekly basis and have found
that if the project plan "owner" -- that is who ever published the plan last
-- needs to approve the time. Our problem is that the plan "owner" is not
always available to "approve" and "update" the timesheets by our weekly
deadline. My question: Is there a function whereby we can designate a
delegate to approve and update the timesheets?

The_WI_Cheezer --

Assuming you are using Project Server 2003, the temporary manager of the
plan would need to do the following:

1. Open the plan in Microsoft Project Professional
2. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments
3. Select the "Become the manager for these assignments" option
4. Click OK
5. Log into PWA
6. Go to the Updates page
7. Approve or Deny the task updates and then process them into the project
plan

When the permanent manager of the project returns, he/she would need to
complete steps 1-3 above to take over managership of the project again.

WI_Cheezer,

This will work, but there is a timing issue. The temporary PM must
republish prior to any resources submitting actuals during that weekly
reporting period. Assuming your resources are allowed to "update" at any
given time during the reporting period, whom ever is designated the PM at the
time of update will recieve resource updates.

What you state is correct for Project Server 2002, but is incorrect for
Project Server 2003.

Thanks Dale, that is good news.

By the way, I have both of your manuals.....Managing Enterprise Projects and
Administering an Enterprise PMO. Both are excellant. Although, wish it
had an index for ease of specific lookup!!!!

Each task in a project can have only one project manager. It is possible to
have multiple project managers for an individual project, but each project
manager must manage different tasks or sections of the project. Hope this
helps.
