delete & backspace key not working properly

My 95 year old mother was working with her new Dell computer using Word
2002. She has Windows XP Media. When I installed Word on her computer, it
worked properly. Then she did something to cause some problems:

1) backspace key will only delete one character, then freezes
2) delete key only deletes one character, then will not work
3) Each key I click on the keyboard I hear a noise coming from the computer.

I uninstalled Word, then reinstalled it..no luck. My Mom accidentally
altered something in Word because for 2 weeks this program worked perfectly.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Perhaps she turned on "filter keys."
