"Delete block? No (Yes)"

When I highlight some words in Microsoft Word and then I
press the key Del[ete] I can't delete it; and on the
bottom scroll bar I get this message: "Delete block? No
(Yes)" I would appreciate if someone can tell me how to
get rid of this message and be able to delete when I
hightlight a word or words...
