Delete Contact List

Dave

When attempting to address email using the "to" icon, I
get the message "the address list could not be displayed.
The contacts folder associated with this could not be
opened..." Then a Select names dialog box opens up and if
I click the drop down box I see 2 entries for contact
names. One is empty, one has all my contacts. How do I
get my contacts to be the default? I am using XP with
Office XP.

Open Outlook, then click on the Address Book icon on your toolbar or go to Tools->Address Book.

Within the Address Book, click on the Tools menu and click "Options".

Under the "When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following order:" section,
choose the contacts list that holds all of your specific contacts.

If you are not using an Exchange Server (Global Address List -GAL), then you can also change your
selection under "Show this address list first" to your contacts list.

Better yet, just remove the invalid reference to the Contacts Folder here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change. >
So this doesn't keep happening.
