delete key does not work in Microsoft word

In new computer, delete key works in publisher and in
email but does not work in Microsoft word when trying to
delete a blocked passage. It does work as a single letter
deletor. This same problem occurs when a different key
board is used. Thanks for the help. Martha

Click...

Tools | Options | General: and clear the two WordPerfect
options.
