Delete key in open message

In Outlook 2003, is there a way to get the delete key to delete a message you've opened, just as it does if you're reading it in the preview pane? In other words, I'd like to open a message with the enter key, delete it with the delete key instead of having to click the "X", return to the message list, open the next message, etc.
