Delete key losing its punch?

I've noticed that, recently, after Entourage 2004 (latest sp running under
latest Tiger sp) is running for a while, the delete key fails to delete mail
messages. Clicking the trash can icon deletes the messages just fine. I can
stop and start Entourage and the delete key works again, for a time.

Googling turned up reports of this behavior earlier, but I didn't see
anything about a resolution. Is this a known bug? Is there a fix/workaround?

Loss of keyboard shortcuts is a known issue, but nobody seems to know what
triggers it. If you have some definite steps that reproducibly cause the
problem, please share them!

Your title cracked me up, Robert. And since I've also seen this
behavior (long before Tiger and this recent E'rage update), I'll add
the comments my wife and I have come up with: "The delete key needs
more RAM." And, "You just need to pound the delete key *harder*."

Seriously, I've seen Entourage lose a whole bunch of keyboard actions,
sometimes all at once. I actually replaced my Apple keyboard (the one
that comes with the G5 towers) about 10 months ago, before hearing that
this was just an odd known issue. The only fix I've found (and it does
work every time) is to quit and restart Entourage.

I can almost always associate it with having just opened an HTML
message. Also, if the last message open/selected before I close
Entourage is HTML, I will have no keyboard shortcuts the next time I
open Entourage unless I click onto a known-good plain-text message (i
read everything in the preview pane), close Entourage and open it back
up.
