Delete key prints an up arrow

My delete key prints an up arrow rather than deleting text in XP Word. It
appears to act as though the Ctrl key is pressed simultaneously. However,
the Ctrl key acts normally otherwise.

This error only occurs in XP word; it does occur in PowerPoint or
non-microsoft programs.

It seemed to begin when I installed EndNote, but I uninstalled that program
and I still get the error.

In Word 2002, click on Tools | Customize | Keyboard. Click in the
"Press new shortcut key" box, and press the Delete key. The Delete key
should be currently assigned to the EditClear command, but it is
probably assigned to something else on your computer, so change it
accordingly.

- Have you tried rebooting your computer?

- Have you tried repairing Microsoft Word?

You should be able to do so by going into Microsoft Word | Help |
Detect and Repair. In the window that appears, make sure that "Discard
my customized settingss..." is *not* checked (unless you don't mind
setting up Outlook again), then click Start.
