Delete old assignment from view resource assigments in PWA

Michelle Moulliet

I have an out-of-date assignment that exists only in the View Resource
Assignments in PWA & need to get rid of it. It has since been deleted from
the client version of the file and republished numberous times. It does not
appear in the PWA project detail views; but still appears in the View
Resource Assignments view. How do I delete this assignment for real?

Thanks!

I looked at this and my issue doesn't entirely fit the bill. The task does
not have a big X by it, so I think the system still thinks it as active (at
least somewhere).

Will this work even though the task is still showing as active?

Thanks again!

Michelle --

I'm concerned about the fact that the task has been deleted, but yet it
still shows up without the X in the View Resource Assignments page. This
could be a sign that the project is corrupted, if publishing does not
resolve the issue. The script I referenced won't work unless the task is
actually a cancelled assignment in the system. If you republishing won't
resolve this problem, then you may want to save the project as an .mpp file,
delete it from the database, and import it back into the system using
Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Project to Enterprise. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Dale. This fixed the problem.

Is there any sort of list of what might cause a file to corrupt? I've had
some strange things happen lately since I deployed the enterprise server and
it would be a big help if I could offer up some more specific explanations
about how and why things do the crazy things they do.

Thanks again, you've been a huge help.

Michelle -

You are more than welcome for the help, my friend! :)

There is no list of possible causes to project corruption, as far as I know.
We usually diagnose project corruption by noting the types of "weird"
behavior you have seen. One of the biggest clues about project corruption
is when the project simply will not publish, no matter how many times you
try to publish it.

When a project becomes corrupted, you can sometimes solve the problem simply
by saving it as an .mpp file, deleting from the Project Server database, and
then importing it back into the system. Sometimes you need to reopen the
..mpp project and save it as either an .mpd file or an .xml file, and then
save it back as an .mpp file. I'm glad the steps in my last post solved
your problem. Thanks for letting us know.

Michelle:

The primary cause of corruption is user error related to lack of training
and understanding best practices. Well trained users rarely encounter these
problems.
