delete plus sign in long distance numbers

How can I remove the plus sign on phone numbers so that I can sync and dial
with my kyocera 7135?
The existance of the "+" sign before the 1 on LD numbers causes the dialing
from the address book on the phone.
I would like to be able to store 11 digit LD numbers but have the "+"
suppressed.
