delete removable disc items - directory not empty?

I want to remove a file on my flash drive. It won't remove - answer comes up
directory not empty. What does this mean?

Open Windows Explorer and delete the file from there. Or post your
question in the group for your operating system, Microsoft Office
programs are not used for file system management.
