Delete styles from menu

C

Chris Mahoney

Hi

How can I programmatically delete (or hide) styles from the Style
dropdown in Word? Our corporate templates will have their own set of
styles, and we want to get rid of any other styles in the menu so that
users don't accidentally use them. How can I accomplish this?

Thanks
Chris

How about setting up a custom menu that only has your styles in it? Which
styles get displayed in Word's various styles displays depends on the system
settings as well as which version of Word you are working with. Put it in a
global, make sure that the styles actually exist in each of your document
templates, and in your global, remove the Style-Built-In drop-down from the
Formatting toolbar (possibly replacing it with your own).

Also, some styles, like normal and the heading styles, cannot be deleted.

OK, it's been a whole week (sorry for not replying earlier, I forgot
about this) and there haven't been any other suggestions, so it looks
like that might be the only way. Seems a bit clunky though :(

Any programming to delete or hide styles is going to be very
version-dependent. Within the version, it will depend on what the user
options are. Then you have to try to preserve the user options while
enforcing your views. A custom style menu is a lot easier.
