Encourage and iCal sync OK with added calendar items. However, when itemsare deleted in Entourage they are not deleted in iCal. What am I missing??
You're not missing anything. There is a sync problem with Entourage
and this is one of the behaviors that may or may not appear. Generally
its the other way around. A change in iCal won't be reflected in
Entourage. However, it can happen where you delete something in
Entourage and it doesn't appear in iCal.
First though, did you sync Entourage using the Combine method. This is
the most effective. Secondly, to ensure reliable syncs only have 1
module turned on at a time (I've actually posted on this numerous
times in this forum but I'm not sure how effective this forum is - if
you go to Mactopia its a little better as it shows this issue in the
top 5). In your case, it sounds like your prime module would be
Calendar so in Entourage sync prefs just have Calendar ticked which
will sync Events and tasks. I've found since February that syncs are
almost 100% reliable with this method. If you need to sync another
module, say Addresses or Notes, just go into prefs, turn on either one
or both of these modules, hit OK, the popup will ask you which method
and make sure you choose combine, let it sync (takes about 1 min) then
go back into Ent prefs and turn off the modules that you enabled only
leaving one module to sync at a time (in your case I'm guess
Calendar).
Microsoft is aware of the problem, has replicated it but there is no
time-frame on a fix. The prob existed in Ent 04 and has existed in 08
since it came out in Jan 08 - so that's 10 months so don't expect a
fix anytime soon. Some users are using this workaround (see Markspace
forum), some have jumped to other approaches like using the Apple apps
(they are completely reliable) in combination with Markspace's Notes
or Yojimbo Notes and others well I don't know.......
Good luck!
