deleted contacts

newbie here, accidentally deleted all contacts in OL2000.
any help to recover is greatly appreciated!

Gone indeed. If you also deleted them from your Deleted Items folder, you
must have really wanted to lose them. You can't get them back. Restore from
backup.

would it make a difference if using active sync and pda
overwrites cpu?

I can't imagine ever configuring a setup that would permit that, but yes,
overwriting is another good way to delete information permanently and
another reason to keep backups.
Do you really have a configuration that permits that?
