deleted files stay on in word2007 in file menu

When you delete a file the file name stays in the file menu on the word menu.
When microsoft did a live tune up on my computer there were some very small
word files and now they are deleted, and I can't recover them

You can clear all recent files in Word by changing the number of recent
files to zero, and then back to the desired number.

that's just when you switch to a lower number and then back to a higher?).

No, if you set the number to zero, and click OK, you can then go back into
the dialog box and set the desired number--and no current files will be
visible in the "Office button menu."

Office button | Word Options, Advanced category. Change the "Show this
number of Recent Documents" to zero, click OK. Then go back into the dialog
box and set the desired value. Click OK.
