Deleted Items & Custom Forms

Is this a bug ?

Using Outlook 2003

I design a custom contact form and publish it to the default contacts
folder.

I create a number of contacts based on the custom form

I delete (move to Deleted Items Folder) some of the contacts

When I try to open the deleted Contacts, they open using the default form.

How do I fix this ?

Outlook doesn't know that the form definition for those items is kept in the
Contacts folder. The fix would be to publish the form to the Personal Forms
library (or don't delete the items <g> -- sorry, just couldn't resist)

Sue,

I don't think this is quite right because if I create two Contact Folders
and in one folder I create a custom form and a contact that uses this form.
Then move the contact to the other folder, it open with the correct form
because the form is in the local cache.

In addition this is not an issue with Outlook 2000 or 2002 it only seems to
be a problem with Outlook 2003.

I would have thought that once a custom form is in your form cache then
regardless of which folder the item is in it should open correctly - and
indeed this seems to be true except for the Deleted Items folder (and only
in Outlook 2003)

Sue,

This is still strange ....

If I delete an entire Folder (which has custom forms in it) then the forms
still open correctly.

If the cache is Folder specific I would not expect to see this because the
EntryID for the deleted Folder and the items in it have all changed.

The Outlook 2003 cache works differently; it's folder-specific.

An item can always look at its current folder for forms published there. Or
did you mean "items" when you wrote "forms"?

I think I meant item....

However if I publish a custom form to the Delete Items folder, Outlook 2003
still insists on using the default form.

Now that's a little weird, although maybe the Deleted Items folder has its
own behavior -- it's certainly not expected to be used as a custom form
repository.

Another weird thing, if I delete a regular task and then open it from
Deleted Items, the general tab does not show Categories or Contacts ...

It really does seem some voodoo is at work when opening items in Deleted
Items folder.

Voodoo indeed, but it doesn't work that way here . Exchange mailbox or PST

But "deleting" by dragging to the user's Deleted Items folder, right? So,
really moving, not deleting. Not a scenario I'd ever think to test, I'm
afraid.

Now we are playing with words (moving or right clicking and choosing the
Delete option)

It has the same effect.

It has the same effect, but an item deleted from a public folder wouldn't
normally wind up in the Deleted Items folder.
