deleted subweb, but permissions are still there . . . but really not

I deleted a subweb via FP 2002 (administer a web server) and when I viewed
"manage virtual accounts", the permissions associated with the subweb were
still there.

When I try to delete them, I receive an error that there is no user with the
name of the user I am trying to delete.

Any suggestions?

A little more information, I looked in IIS and saw the permissions wizard,
but am concerned that it will reset all the permsissions or cause a
conflict.
