Deleted tasks not marked in timesheet

One of the project managers has deleted several tasks. After doing so,
he republished the entire project. Still, those deleted tasks show up
in the timesheet of the user, but without the 'X' on the left of the
screen marking this task as deleted. The user is still able to report
hours on that deleted task. The project manager can accept the hours,
and when he updates the project, he will get a message stating that the
update cannot be processed, possibly because the task has been deleted.

Does anyone have a clue about how this can happen and, more important,
how this situation can be restored and prevented.

Thanks in advance,

Andre:

Before deleting a task, the PM must close out the assignment. You do this by
zeroing out remaining work first. Publishing the changes. Then remove the
resource, and publish the changes. Then delete the task. Keep in mind that
doing this removes actual work from active tasks.

To fix the problem you now have, the easiest thing to do is save the plan as
an mpp file, delete the project and its assignments from the server, and
then import it and republish.

Thank you Gary for your prompt answer.

Normally, whenever I delete a task, I do not first clear the
assignment, I just delete the task. I just tested this, with and
without actuals reported on the task, but after deletion the task shows
up in the timesheet with de 'X' to mark it as deleted, just as I would
expect.
In the case I described, the task hes been deleted form the .mpp file,
but still shows up as an active task on which the user can report time.
This is the first time this has happened here, and people delete tasks
all the time, I have thousands of deleted tasks in the database.

So far you've been lucky at roulette.
