deleting a corrupted normal.dot file

P

A WORD file became corrupted and unopenable. Tried many recovery approaches
but all failed. Discovered the normal.dot template is also corrupted and
WINDOWS will not allow normal.dot to be deleted, cut (repositioned elsewhere)
or renamed. WORD continues to opens files based on the corrupt normal.dot.
How can I stop it or delete it?

Close Word and Outlook. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and see if there are any
instances of Winword still running. If there are, shut them down.

Delete any orphan temporary files -

You should now be able to rename normal.dot to normal.old. If not reboot and
try again. If you still can't rename it, come back and I'll tell you how to
rename it via DOS.

You may find that with the orphan temporay files removed you can open your
docment.
