Deleting a line of text deletes the graphic above it...

Any "floating" ("wrapped") graphic (that is, any graphic that is in the
drawing layer) is anchored to a text paragraph. If you delete the paragraph
it is anchored to, it will be deleted. If you don't need to wrap text around
the graphic, make it inline instead, and it will function like a text
paragraph.
