deleting a locked file

I am a Mac user. I have an older WORD file that was sent to me in a locked status. I am able to read it fine. I am trying to delete the file and keep getting an error message saying "The operation cannot be completed because the item is locked."

When I attempted to move the file to another location, it created a duplicate of the item but left the original file in the same storage location on my hard drive. I tried moving the file to my desktop. It created a duplicate document on my desktop, and I am now unable to get rid (trash) it. I keep getting the same error message as referenced above.

How can I delete this locked file??

Select the file in the Finder, then Command-I to bring up the Info
window. There should be a Locked box that you can uncheck.
