Deleting a resource from a pool

Joe

I have a resource that is no longer with the company. I
am using a resource pool. He is no longer assigned any
future task and has no hours or work remaining, but he did
complete work on a task for a current project. Can I
delete this resource from the resource pool? Will it
cause any problems with the current project where he was
assigned a task that is already complete?

I would recommend that you not delete the resource from your shared resource
pool until every project using the resource has been completed and
disconnected from the pool. This way, the historical record of that
resource's work will be maintained in project. Just an opinion. Perhaps
the others have some ideas, too.

Have patience, Joe - remember all contributions are voluntary and depend
upon people being available and well as knowledgeable!

If you remove a resource from the pool it will not affect the future of your
projects. However, it will remove the historical record of his presence and
could well upset variance calculations ( though I haven't tried to do this
so I'm not sure of the precise effect on earned value calculations) as his
contribution will be removed.

My advice is to agree with Dale and wait until the project(s) he was working
on has finished.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on:)

Thanks to both of you guys, I agree, waiting until the
project is completed and after I break the link to the
pool is when I will delete the unwanted resource.

I would say not to delete him. IF you do you'll lose the info on the
work he did in the past.
